Map of Dublin

A river splitting the city in two, two canals wrapped around it like an embrace and, in between, the Georgian squares. All of Dublin fits in a five-kilometre circle.

What you see on the map

The Liffey. It crosses the map from west to east, channelled between quays, with a bridge every few hundred metres: the iron Ha'penny Bridge, and O'Connell Bridge, wider than it is long.

The two canals. The Royal Canal to the north and the Grand Canal to the south trace two arcs that enclose the centre, from Heuston station to the docks.

The Georgian squares. St Stephen's Green, Merrion Square and Fitzwilliam Square, south of the river: rectangles of garden surrounded by brick houses with coloured doors. On the map they are neat green patches.

Trinity College and the castle. The large university grounds, with their courtyards, right in the centre; and to the west, the castle and the two cathedrals, in the oldest part.

Which scale and paper suit it

1:18,000 on a 30 cm square, as in the picture, covers 5 km: from the castle to the Docklands and from one canal to the other. Buildings can still be made out.

1:7,000 on A3 moves in on Temple Bar and Trinity, or on the Georgian squares with every garden.

In blueprint, as here, the river and canals look like an engineer's plan; in black ink, like an engraving.

Make it yours

Open the example and move the frame: Phoenix Park, to the west, one of the largest city parks in Europe, or the harbour of Howth, on the bay, deserve a map of their own.

Change all the colours at once with a theme (black ink, sepia, coral, night, blueprint) and download it as PNG. With a free account, also element by element, at 600 dpi, as vector PDF and as SVG.
