Map of San Sebastián
An almost round bay with an island in the middle, a hill that closes it off and a river winding into the city. Few shapes are as rewarding for a map.
What you see on the map
La Concha bay. The centre of the drawing: shore lines fill it in rings, with Santa Clara island in the middle and the strip of sand following the curve.
Urgull. The hill that closes the bay to the east, in green, with the Old Town packed in at its foot.
The extension. Behind the beach, the grid of the Centro district: regular blocks that contrast with the surrounding slopes, where streets climb in curves.
The Urumea. The river crosses the city from south to north, with a sharp meander at Loiola, and reaches the sea beside Zurriola beach, in Gros.

Which scale and paper suit it
1:15,000 on a 30 cm square, as in the picture, takes in the bay, the centre and the districts as far as Loiola. At that scale every building is drawn.
1:8,000 on A3 focuses on the bay, the Old Town and the extension: the heart of the city in full detail.
The circle suits it. Centred slightly south of the beach, it leaves the bay at the top and the river closing in on the right.
Make it yours
Open the example and move the frame: go up towards Igueldo to take in the whole bay from the west, or follow the Urumea down to Loiola and Martutene.
